Summary:
The most basic premise of the Blood Type Diet is that each of us has a genetic bias to specific foods. Eating foods that are prescribed by your blood type can help you maintain your healthy weight. Since these foods are part of the evolution of your blood type, your body won't have to work extra hard to process the food you eat and as result should store less as fat. The diet plan was created by Peter D'Adamo in his book Eat Right 4 Your Type.
For example, type O blood dates back to the hunger caveman days and thus you should eat foods rich in fat and protein. A type O diet would be high in meats, some vegetables and very few (if any) grains or dairy. Your typical caveman diet!
The opposite of O, would be an A blood type. These people (cultivators, rather than hunters) tend to have an intolerance for meat-rich diets and have adaptable digestive systems. If you are an A blood type, you would tend to do better with vegetarian diet plans.
The blood type diet may not be for everyone, but if you're looking to eat right for your blood type, you should certainly give the Blood Type Diet a try. The jury is still out about the Blood Type Diet. So far, I haven't seen any science to back up that an A blood type diet will help you lose weight any faster than an O blood type diet. But if the concept is appealing to you, we recommend you give it a try - after all, it can't hurt.
