Summary:
NutriSystem is a pre-packaged diet plan (similar to the Jenny Craig diet) which means that the Nutrisystem diet program requires you to purchase their pre-packaged food to participate in their diet plan. You will add fresh fruits and vegetables to fill out your meal plans.
New for 2009 is their new "NutriSystem Select" program which includes fresh-frozen food items (even ice cream bars). In our opinion, this greatly makes the Nutrisystem program far more comprable to the Jenny Craig diet plan - and far less expensive than Jenny Craig.
You purchase 28 days of food which they'll ship to your home or office. Currently, they have a special offer where when you sign up for auto-delvery, they give you two weeks free. This option is ideal if you have more than 20 pounds that you would like to lose.
If you just want to give it a test spin, you can purchase individual means a la carte as well - a nice option to see if NutriSystem is right for you. Try NutriSystem and get a total savings of $100!
As with many standard diets, you'll have 3 squares a day, a snack and a dessert. Nutrisystem is great for those with busy schedules as you won't need to spend hours making sure your eating the right carbs and counting calories. Nutrisystem does the planning for you. NutriSystem breaks out their diet plans into four categories and then breaks them down further for men and women. For example:
A recemt article on Forbes.com found NutriSystem to be the lowest priced weight loss program. (Forbes.com 12-23-08)
Nutrisystem has really tried to make an impact in market for men on a diet. A mens diet is hard since men tend to get quite hungry! The most notable celebrity dieter for Nutrisystem is Dan Marino (former quarterback for the Dolphins, for the ladies reading this!). Dan was quoted as saying "I haven’t been this fit since going pro in 1983." In the new ads, he says "Get back in the game by losing weight with NutriSystem." The goal is, of course, to showcase that Nutrisystem isn't just for women, but can help men lose weight too.

Wide variety of foods, you can select a pre-planned menu or chose your favorites.

Since the food is pre-packaged, some people may not care for some food options. However, the new fresh-frozen food items should eliminate this con.
