Low Cholesterol Diets

With all the commercials you'll see on TV for cholesterol lowering pills, you'd think there's absolutely nothing you can do to control your cholesterol. Genetics aside (for which your doctor can best assist you in managing your cholesterol), a healthy low cholesterol diet can be a very easy way to maintain and manage a healthy cholesterol level.

A higher than normal cholesterol level can be caused by many things - the most common being diet and heredity. The first choice is always to try reducing your cholesterol level by a healthy diet that will contain few saturated fats and plenty of complex carbohydrates.

Keep in mind, there are two kinds of cholesterol which create your total cholesterol level - HDL (the good cholesterol) and LDL (the bad). The "healthy" normal range for total cholesterol is 100-199. From 200-230 may be a concern if you have other risk factors. Speak with your doctor about your cholesterol levels if you have concerns about how diet will impact your cholesterol levels.
